Another year, better start to it.

I saw Debbie's post and realized that I've never summarized 2009 or provided goals for 2010.

In 2009, I didn't resume cycling in earnest until June. The total for the year came out to 3,843 km/2384 mi, but I only had 268 km/167 mi on June 1.

This year so far (through March 31), I have 766 km/475 mi, including 501 km in March. That's more like it. The goal this year is an average of 400 km per month minimum, hoping for 500-600, all of it aiming toward a year's total in the 5,000 km vicinity (3,100 mi). I've never done 3,000 miles in a year, although in 2006, approximately 2,700 miles came close. This year, I'll have no Euro biking to fall back on, having been forced to cancel the Denmark trip because there simply isn't time for it. It's just the daily aim of somewhere between 13 and 30 kilometers, with longer rides whenever time permits.

The weight's been creeping back up, so it's time to lighten the load by about 20 pounds. That's the hard part.

Started training a week ago for a trip in May to Northern California. My house to Shawnee Park R/T via the new part of the Indiana Greenway and Louisville bike paths/lanes is 29 miles. I have done it three times in a week and already feel more like the old me. Legs, breathing and tailend all moving in the right direction. No hills yet, that will be next week.
